Tucson Guitar Society (TGS) - Outreach Program
The mission of the Tucson Guitar Society is to promote the awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the guitar and similar stringed instruments to people of all cultures, ages, abilities, and economic means in Tucson and surrounding areas.
The Tucson Guitar Society, formed in 1987, is a non-profit, community-based organization. Our goal is to provide local guitar enthusiasts with opportunities for meeting other enthusiasts, improving their playing, and attending guitar performances and other events. The Guitar Society sponsors workshops, concerts and classes throughout the year.
Society members range from appreciative non-players through all levels of performers from beginning students to professional musicians. All Tucson Guitar Society members are eligible to receive discounts on activities sponsored by the society.
Outreach Programs:
Coordinator
Eduardo Minozzi-Costa is the Outreach Director of the Tucson Guitar Society.
1- TGS SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM
This is a new eductional project targeting selected Tucson area schools that will provide students in these schools with exposure to high-quality classical guitar concerts. Our concerts are free and are generally 30 minutes long. As an example, please listen to and enjoy this sample of a Classical Guitar performance. In this performance, Eduardo is playing a the University of Arizona School of Music 2009 Sholin Guitar Competition. If you are associated with a school and are interested in scheduling a concert, please contact Eduardo Minozzi Costa at (520) 282-4133 or at the contact form. Concerts are offered on a limited first-come, first-served basis and may be scheduled according to your needs as time is available. Eduardo would be happy to discuss with you how this project may benefit your school and how it can be adapted to your curriculum.
2- PERFORMANCE MEETINGS - GUITAR IN THE WOODS
Each month the Tucson Guitar Society hosts an array of guitarists performing various styles of acoustic music. The first part is an open mic format and players range from ages 6 to 60 and all skill levels are welcome. For the second half we invite a featured guest from the vast pool of extraordinarily gifted local talent. Players include area professionals, teachers, current and former university students while the styles include classical, folk, jazz, and original compositions.
Performance meetings are free and open to the public. Performers should arrive promptly and let the coordinator know that they wish to play. Drop-in performers are welcome!

Please contact me for the next meeting dates.
3- TGS GUITAR ORCHESTRA
The TGS Guitar Orchestra will significantly maximize YOUR guitar performance experience and offer you a family-oriented environment for growth and new friendships. And the best part is that it is FREE to TGS Members.
The Orchestra will be directed by Gabriel Navia, a Doctor's candidate in the University of Arizona Guitar Program.
The Orchestra repertoire will be FUN to play and the voice parts will be flexible to cover since beginners (you should be able to read music even if just basic) to advanced players.

4- TUCSON GUITAR TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
The association happened as a form of providing more VARIETY to our students. What do I mean by that? I mean that TGS and UofA will be listening to your ideas on how to assist your students with OUTSIDE guitar class experience. Maybe ideas like youth guitar competitions, free concert tickets, guitar masterclasses, topic seminars will come up. Subscribe and participate now!
I believe that the more variety a student is exposed to, the more motivated s/he will become to keep achieving results. It's clear to me that learning is a process, a process from where our student is right now to where s/he will be one day. Why don't make this process more enjoyable? How can we make sure our students take full advantage of our city's guitar scenario?
