Pathways to Guitar Excellence © Live Seminars are the best option for making sure you and your students really get to the level you want. Regardless of our musical style, each of us is on a journey, traveling with our guitars. My journey, for example, began when I was eight years old. I had been blessed with the privilege of studying with amazing guitar professors who not only taught me the art of playing classical guitar, but who also inspired me to find within myself the desire tokeep going.
I read countless books, listened to a lot of music and watched great live performances, always trying to figure out how to become a better musician. My efforts bore fruit. I won full scholarships for both my masters and doctoral studies in guitar performance; I won numerous competitions. I also gave concerts and master classes at several guitar festivals in the U.S. and Brazil.
However, despite my “success,” questions dogged me. What makes somebody an outstanding guitarist? What separates an average player from an excellent one?
We’ve all heard the usual answers. “Hard work,” or “innate talent.” People look at me today and say “Oh, Eduardo, you were born with a gift, that’s why you play so well.” Ha! If only they knew. That’s why my answer is always “Well, you have no idea what it has taken for me to arrive at where I am today.” I had to struggle to perform in front of people; my left hand was a disaster. Also, my hands are very small. How’s that for a “gift?”
All of us have had challenges and, of course, we always will, regardless of our level, but now I see why these hurdles were placed in front of me, why they had to be confronted – because they led me to answer the questions that not only changed my life, but my students’ as well.
Is there a better way, a new way to learn and to improve?
Yes, there is!
